Itinerary for Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon)

6-Day 5-Night Trip in January 2016

We had not been to Vietnam before this trip. My family read up a bit on Ho Chi Minh City and consulted a family friend who had travelled to Vietnam a few times and loved the place. (See references below).

Instead of covering the North and South of Vietnam in one trip, we focused on Ho Chi Minh City for the 6-day trip.

Let me share our itinerary in this post. (I have written two other posts on Vietnam: First Impression of Vietnam and Survival Guide to Vietnam.)

Because Vietnam was a French colony before in the 19th Century, the French influence in the architectural designs can be seen today.

Mekong Delta tour
We picked TNKTravel for a 2-Day 1-Night travel to Mekong Delta. The agency arranged accommodation as part of the package.

Places visited:

  1. My Tho. Boat ride along river, visited fruit plantations and fishing village along river bank.
  2. Ben Tre. Sat on hand-rowed sampan along natural canal.
  3. Can Tho. Visited Cai Rang Floating market very early in the morning. Highlight of this tour.

Return to HCMC after lunch. Took about 4+ hours to reach on the coach. Comfortable ride back.

Tuesday 19 Jan Binh Thanh District
Walked a bit of Binh Thanh District near the hotel in the morning to feel the local place.

Went back to Notre Dame Cathedral (via local taxi) and walked the area and did some last minute shopping before going home to Singapore. Notre Dame Cathedral was opened to public on this Tuesday.

Taxis are alright. They go by meter fare. Be prepared to show the address of the place you want to go. Taxi drivers may not understand English Language that well.

Weather:
Hot humid and no rain. There are many cafes around to get a rest from the heat.

Hotel Stayed in:

  1. Beautiful Saigon Boutique Hotel
