This is purely a mathematical exercise to see the Straits Times Index (STI) from the start of the year to 5 May 2016.
This is what I got.
STI as at 31 December 2015 was 2,882.73 points.
STI as at 5 May 2016 was 2,767.81 points.
Maximum value of STI was on 21 April 2016 at 2,960.78 points
Minimum value of STI was on 21 January 2016 at 2,532.70 points.
The average value of all STI values over the period was 2,750.52 points.
If assuming that STI behaves like the first 4 months of the year into the year, then STI fluctuates around the mean of 2,750 points. Of course this mean (average) can adjust upwards or downwards depending on whether the STI is on the uptrend trajectory to downtrend trajectory into the future.
But in real world, many things influence the STI and the above may not happen. Like I said this is purely a mathematical exercise to satisfy my curiosity.
The following diagram shows the STI for the period (year to date).
