This is Paula Hawkins’ first novel and it is a runaway success. It has elements of suspense and modern day Whodunit fiction.
The story lines are believable and it could well happen in real life. The author had great imagination to create a story that hooked me till the end of the book.
What did the main character, Rachel, saw while she was taking the same train almost every day? There were other key players and these people spoke about their lives in first person. As a reader, I gathered more of the story as I proceeded with different characters on different days. By doing this, the author could share what inner thoughts and feelings of each character.
The best way to approach the novel is not to have any idea or be told of how the story would end. I enjoyed the story thoroughly and was satisfied with the ending.
Paula Hawkins showed her past journalistic skills and I was able to feel the psychological make-up of her characters. It was real, the problems faced by individuals living in our urbanised world. It was satisfying read overall.
