On flight to Taoyuan International Airport, TigerAir Taiwan aircraft encountered severe air turbulence never experienced before. It was harrowing. I pictured in my mind a tiny aircraft shooting at high speed through vast air pockets at the mercy of nature.
The trip was free and easy covering several parts of Taiwan from Taichung 台中, Tainan 台南, Fenqihu 奋起湖 to Taipei 台北. We tried various transportations: High Speed Rail, Taiwan Rail, Taiwan Metro, Alishan Forest train, public buses, taxis and booked-taxis.
For accommodations, we booked them using Airbnb and Booking.com. Not all Airbnb accommodations were up to expectations. What we did not like about Airbnb accommodations was the co-ordinations with the owner of the properties. Cost may be cheap but the room in Taipei City Ximending area was a tight squeeze. The room may be well decorated but you won’t want to walk the windowless corridor leading to the room. The cigarette smoke lingered on in the corridor. One may be better off to book into various hotels, motels and hostels in the area. Pay a bit more for the comfort and peace of mind.
We visited in October which means rain were common occurrences. It rained from the time we started the journey and we only had sunny day on the last day of the trip. I still like rain and cooler climate weather than their sunny day. It was too hot (32 degrees Celsius) for walking around.
We hit Taiwan’s National Day celebration (双十, October 10) which was a public holiday when people were out and about. Trains were packed and tourist sites were full of people.
