“The Nakano Thrift Shop” by Hiromi Kawakami – A Book Review

The novel was translated into English by Allison Markin Powell.

The author used the setting of a thrift shop selling second-hand things for her story. The owner is Mr Nakano and he has a sister Masayo. He engaged two employees Mr Takeo and Miss Hitomi for the shop. The lives of these four characters and others were intertwined in a story of common Japanese culture and way of lives. There were loves, friendships, and sadness, typical of life stories.

The novel was easy reading. Story-line is uncomplicated. I like the ending of the novel.file_000

Just finished reading the book! I liked the ending as well, a bit about impermanence, a bit about change in life.
