How did Sheryl Sandberg cope when her husband died suddenly after eleven years being married? To add to her pain, she has two children who had lost a father as a result. Option B was co-written with Adam Grant, a professor in psychology and Sheryl Sandberg is a well-known author of Lean In and COO at Facebook.
In just ten chapters, Option B caught my attention and kept me interested till the end. It is a book that was not all sadness and deep grief. In fact, it was uplifting to read how one can cope with adversities in lives. I like the fact that we can bounce forward and still find joy and to live life again with love and laughter. We have this resilience in ourselves and collective resilience with people around us to weather setbacks at an individual level and organisational level.
I read many stories of different types of adversities faced by different individuals. It is good to know that grief is not permanent. One day, it has to end. The book provides many coping strategies to build resilience from meltdown. There is hope yet for those facing personal disasters.
