It is interesting to drill down and see how each sector of the listed companies was performing since 2016. I use the FTSE ST Indexes and compare them from 31 December 2015 to 21 July 2017. This is one and a half years of performance report card.

The Straits Times Index (STI) rose 15.0% followed by Mid-cap stocks (11.2%). Small cap stocks, fledgling stocks and the Catalist stocks did not do as well.

Right at the top was real estate holdings and development sector. It rose 24.7% over the period. Financials sector rose 22.1%. Consumer goods, Industrials, and real estates, all increased about 20%. Real estate investment trusts (REITs) increased 16.8%. If you hold stocks in these sectors, you would have done well over the one and a half year period.
What came as a surprise was that technology sector declined 23.9%.
