“Mr Popper’s Penguins” by Richard and Florence Atwater – A Book Review

This story was copyrighted in 1938. The 2009 paperback edition has illustrations by Robert Lawson. The illustrations made the words come alive for me.

The story on a dozen penguins and Mr Popper was written for children. It was a light-hearted and humourous. Mr Popper and his family stayed in Stillwater of USA. Not a rich man, he dreamed of going to the Antarctic to see penguins. One day, Mr Popper received a box with a penguin inside. This started the story of how twelve penguins came into the lives of Mr Popper and his family.

Children would enjoy the adventures of these penguins outside their natural habitat. One would need imaginations to appreciate an unlikely and unreal story. Read the story as it was told by Atwater and enjoy the fun and antics of these lovable penguins.
